The importance of early childhood education in shaping the developing child is reflected in the large numbers of teachers working in this field (over half a million in preschool and kindergarten education alone in 2002). Job opportunities are plentiful, but teachers in public schools need at least a bachelor’s degree, an approved training program and a license. Even if you are working in the private sector your teaching ability and job prospects will be much enhanced by enrolling in a college program in early childhood education. The special understanding of the child’s mind and educational needs you gain from your course will increase your chances of finding the teaching position you want.
