 Liberal Studies Degrees
Many employers seek persons who have broad social and humanistic frames of reference, who can think through problems logically and who can present their knowledge accurately and in styles that conform to generally acceptable standards. These are all skills and knowledge-frames that liberal studies provide.
Liberal Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that prepares students for a truly broad range of career opportunities. It combines the methods and insights of the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences, and stresses understanding of concepts, rational analysis, imagination, and communication.
The objective of liberal studies is to stimulate the student to constantly search for knowledge by capitalizing and building on acquired skills of: problem-solving, critical thinking; creative thinking ; moral reasoning; organizing information, understanding library-/computer-based research and data retrieval methods, written and oral communication; computer literacy and quantitative reasoning, just to name a few.
Liberal Studies students are well prepared to be conversant with the concepts and insights available in various academic subjects. A truly liberally educated person can turn a problem around and study it from different intellectual perspectives. With this insight, the student is uniquely qualified to develop solutions that are widely applicable.
The generalist with a liberal education that develops analytical, relational, and critical abilities has more career options over the course of a lifetime than do more narrowly educated individuals who can be restricted to a particular job description. Whatever your interest and life goals, the results of an interdisciplinary , multi-perspective education will enrich your career abilities and enhance your personal life.
