Electricity is a vital source of power for our modern lifestyle; without it the world would grind to a halt. So there is plenty of work for electricians and the job outlook is good.
The usual route to becoming an electrician is to complete a three to five year apprenticeship program. This combines at least 144 hours of class-based instruction with 2000 hours of practical on the job experience. This gives you both the theory of electrical work and the chance to put it into practice. It is also possible to acquire electrician skills by trade school or distance learning routes.
