The health and medical fields are expected to remain strong in the face of outsourcing pressures. If you enjoy caring for people and the atmosphere in a medical center, but would prefer less stress than faced by nursing and medical assistant roles, an EKG Technician position may be the one for you.
Electrocardiograms are non-invasive procedures in which electrodes placed painlessly on a patient's chest and extremities record the electric waves resulting from the beating of the heart. These waves are traced on a strip of paper or an electronic record, and are then interpreted by cardiologists and physicians.
After you get your electrocardiograph technician certificate and find employment in the field, your typical duties will include escorting patients to and from the treatment room; attaching the electrodes, conducting the test, and then marking the results. With additional training, you may become qualified to operate more advanced instruments for cardiag diagnosis.
