Taxation may be one of the words least liked by the general public. Taxation is the process in which citizens of a government pay for the services of that government. Taxation occurs in a number of different ways. Taxes are levied on people’s income, their property, their investments, and even on the items they buy. The revenues from taxes generally are funneled into different government agencies. Property taxes, for instance, are often funneled to government-run public school systems. Corporations also have to pay taxes. Both corporations and citizen groups spend an extraordinary amount of effort trying to convince elected officials to lower their taxes on a regular basis.
